A 64-year-old Markham man tripped over his own theft attempt at an Orland Park Kohl’s, spilling two pairs of shoes onto the pavement as police closed in.

Tommy Morgan III was arrested Feb. 10 after officers witnessed him leaving the store with an “unusually bulky” jacket. When a pair of white shoes fell from underneath the garment, Morgan bolted — but stumbled almost immediately. Two more pairs tumbled to the ground.

Police arrested Morgan for retail theft and possession of cocaine.

The arrest was one of four shoplifting cases police responded to across Orland Park’s shopping district in less than two weeks.

On Feb. 14, Dujuan D. Austin Jr., 32, of Orland Hills, was arrested at Jewel Food Store, 9350 W. 159th St. Police found him near a nearby Burger King parking lot holding candy and flowers.

Austin told police he was trying to give his girlfriend a nice day, according to the report. He was fined $300 and issued a one-year ban from the store.

Five days later, on Feb. 19, police arrested Dimitri J. Drimonas, 43, of Orland Park, at the same Jewel location. Store officials recognized him as a repeat offender and observed him taking candy, batteries and liquor.

Police arrested Drimonas at his home. The store banned him for a year.

On Feb. 23, Victoria N. Montgomery, 35, of Orland Park, was arrested at Von Maur, 4 Orland Square Dr., after exiting with a $195 bottle of Gucci Guilty fragrance.

Montgomery was charged and given a one-year ban by the store.
