One man was shot and killed and a second man was wounded during an early morning shootout Saturday in the parking lot of a Bridgeview pool hall, police said.
Police Chief Ricardo Mancha said a group of people were inside Que Ball Sports Bar and Billiards, 7735 S. Harlem Ave., about 2 a.m. when a second group of people walked in.
“The first group left and was followed by the second group,” Mancha said. “A man in the second group pulled out a gun and threatened some of the people in the first group.”
“A brother of one of the people who was threatened was a (concealed carry permit holder) and got a handgun from his vehicle and shots were fired.”
According to Mancha, Juan Francisco Rendon was the member of the second group who first brandished a weapon in the parking lot about 2:10 a.m.
Clemente Gustavo was the man who retrieved his handgun from a vehicle.
Mancha said Rendon was hit multiple times and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center at 2:42 a.m.
Gustavo was hit once in the torso and ran about 50 yards west until he collapsed. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken to Christ in critical condition but his condition improved to stable.
Additional police were called for crowd control as a crowd began to gather in the parking lot after the shootings.
A handgun was recovered from Gustavo. Mancha said numerous shell casings were found in the parking lot.
No charges have been filed as the case is still under investigation.
