Jerry Butler, 63, of the 11300 block of Peach Tree Lane, Alsip, was charged DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving with no insurance after police said he was attempting to drive away on three wheels after striking a curb near 154th Street and 94th Avenue.
Police said Butler struck a curb, which blew out one of his front tires as well as causing heavy front-end damage to his car. He still tried driving his Chevy Trailblazer while parts of the vehicle were scattered all around the roadway, police said.
Police found an open bottle of alcohol wedged between the front passenger seat and the center console. Police also said they detected an odor of alcohol on Butler’s breath and his eyes were bloodshot. He told police he was returning from a party where he had two drinks.
