What will happen with the Petey’s II property in Orland Park has finally been answered.
Amazon has proposed a massive development for the 35-acre site at 159th Street and LaGrange Road that includes a 228,660 square foot commercial retail building along with five outlots.
The project would include demolishing the restaurant that closed two years ago in January 2024.
The village announced Friday the project is scheduled for a hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday by the village Plan Commission.
Amazon’s proposal includes retail “of a wide selection of products, including groceries and general merchandise, with accessory services and potentially dining locations for prepared food sold on-site,” according to a special-use permit application.
Alongside the building would be 837 parking spaces and seven loading docks, according to the application. Amazon customers would be able to receive deliveries at the facility, and the site plan includes space for delivery drivers “to improve safety and meet the demands of modern online retail without sacrificing the in-store customer experience.”
Amazon would construct a stormwater detention pond along with six acres of open greenspace.
If approved by the village board, it would become the latest project eyed for that part of the village.
In September, the village approved plans by Costco, which is just to the west of the Petey’s II site, to build a roundabout on Ravinia Avenue, add 20 gas pumps to its gas station and convert the existing gas station into additional parking.
Costco is also adding another entrance/exit on the northwest side of the building.
In early December, trustees agreed to use eminent domain to acquire a former gas station and KFC restaurant at 9401 and 9441 West 159th Street.
Plans were announced in early 2024 for 132 luxury apartments, a hotel and three restaurants on a site southeast of the 159th and LaGrange intersection.
The village also has plans to extend Ravinia Avenue south to 161st Street.
Village officials said negotiations have been underway for months with Amazon to develop the property.
