The Evergreen Park Youth Department Coat Drive resulted in twice as many items being donated this year, which is the largest turnout for the program.

From Oct, 1 through Nov. 30, community members donated a total of 942 items to help provide warmth to those in need. It doubled the amount collected from last year’s 497 donations.

The coat drive was a collaborative effort as residents contributed winter coats, winter wear accessories, and blankets to drop-off sites at the Evergreen Park Village Hall, Evergreen Park Public Library, OSF HealthCare Little Company of Mary Medical Center, and Sigma Gamma Rho-Philo Affiliates Oak Lawn Chapter.

“I just want to thank everyone for their generosity,” said Pyeisha Allen, director of the Evergreen Park Youth Department.  “It means so much to see such strong community support for those who are in need. Thank you to our partner organizations that were drop-off locations for us. Their partnership really helped us reach more people in need.”

All items collected during the drive will be donated to Almost Home Chicago and the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation.
