Raymond J. Pietras, 87, a United States Navy veteran, died peacefully Nov. 14, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was the beloved father of Steven, Raymond (Patricia) and Michael (Karen), and the proud grandfather of Jonathan (Jessica), Jason (Sheyanna), Nicole Pankratz (Matt), Courtney Delaney (Dillon), Alexander, Steven (Molly), Dylan (Abigail), Taylor, Nathan, Kailey Kopacz and Cassidy Kopacz. He was also a great-grandfather to Kaylie, Raymond, Waylan, Nayelea, Charlotte, Lucas, Bennett, Emma Pankratz, Grayson Pankratz and Landen Pankratz, and a great-great-grandfather to Myla Pankratz.
He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey, his sister Jennifer Ludington, his brother Ron, and his parents, John and Jennie.
Pietras will be remembered for his generosity, steady presence and the love he shared with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 2025, from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Hwy., Palos Hills. Interment will take place Monday, Nov. 24, at 12:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery; attendees are asked to arrive 15 minutes early.
