A Chicago man was arrested Thursday for leaving the scene of a fatal accident in October of 2023 in the Garfield Ridge community.
Edgar Carrera, 37, of the 3200 block of West 66th Street, was charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death.
Carrera was arrested by members of the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in the 4900 block of South Lorel Avenue in Stickney.
Police said Carrera was the man who was driving in the 5600 block of Rutherford on October 15, 2023, when he fatally struck an 81-year-old man riding a bicycle. Police said Carrera fled the scene without reporting the incident or rendering aid.
Police did not release the name of the man who was killed or how Carrera was linked to the incident.
Carrera was due for an initial court hearing at 2600 S. California on Friday.
