Justice is getting $203,904 from the Cook County Department of Transportation to help pay for installation of new sidewalks throughout the village.

The announcement was made by Trustee Stan Ogorek during the July 28 meeting of the village board.

He read a letter from the county confirming the village’s participation in the 2025 Invest In Cook program. The project was found to align with the county’s long range plans, the letter said.

The village had applied for the funding from the county, Justice Director of Economic Development Matthew Zarebczan said.

Sidewalks are planned for the north side of the village, he said.

“This is going to be Oak Grove (Avenue) between 75th Street and 76th Street, and for 76th Street to fill in the gaps between Garden Lane and Oak Grove Avenue,” Zarebczan said after the meeting.

Sidewalks will also go “a bit east from Oak Grove Avenue on 76th Place to make a connection with the library,” he said.

“There are some sidewalks now going from Archer to 76th “but that’s where it stops,” he said.“This will fill in the gaps. That’s great. This should cover all the construction.”

In other business, the board approved home occupation licenses for two at-home businesses.

One is Lester Windows Inc., which will be operating a home office for a window installation contractor business at 8237 S. 82nd Ave. The other is for an auto mobile repair business called Mobile Mechanic at 8933 W. 75th St.

Trustee Jeffrey Allen, attending via Zoom, said the public works department had a busy weekend of July 25 to 27 with recent storms. “They had over 70 calls,” Allen said.

As Mayor Kris Wasowicz noted, “there’s a lot of branches and trees down. In addition, there was a water break in 82nd Avenue that dumped a lot of mud and dirt in our sewer system.”

The board approved the annual membership in the Justice Chamber of Commerce for $75.

The village board’s next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 11.
