Recently, Nicor Gas hosted a produce stand in University Park and served more than 130 families with 1,400 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as an energy savings kits for each attendee. Families had the choice of a complimentary weatherization kit that included items such as weatherstripping and door sweeps, or a complimentary water-savings kit that included low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators.
In Illinois, nearly 1.5 million people live in poverty – more than 12 percent of the state’s population. Many of these families struggle to receive and maintain the most basic of essentials, including heated homes in winter, food, housing, and medical assistance. The Nicor Gas team is committed to serving its 2.3 million customers across more than 650 communities with the resources they need to thrive. This year, the company expects to provide nearly 4,500 families across its service territory with free food and access to basic need resources at its produce stands and grocery resource fair events.
In addition to food and basic resources, the Nicor Gas Community Connection Center (C3) team is always on site to provide attendees with a variety of support services related to housing, food insecurity, and federal funding opportunities, along with energy efficiency, bill pay, and other essentials.
