Comings & Goings: McCord Gallery Holiday Shoppe opens tonight

As the Christmas shopping season gets closer, McCord Gallery readies its annual Holiday Shoppe.
The holiday spirit will be flowing when McCord holds the grand opening of its annual Holiday Shoppe tonight, Friday, November 17, from 6-8 p.m.
The gallery is filled with hand-crafted artisan gifts for family, friends or yourself. On Friday, guests will be able to shop while enjoying wine, nibbles and holiday music from Carl Sandburg High School Chamber Singers and Honors String Quartet Furioso.
Holiday Shoppe is located at McCord Gallery & Cultural Center, 9602 W. Creek Road, Palos Park. Hours are daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Holiday Shoppe will be open until December 21.
This year, McCord also is a drop off site for Toys for Tots.
Evergreen Park police to present business safety class
Members of the Evergreen Park Police Department will share their expertise on strategies that will protect your business’s assets, customers, and employees on Tuesday, November 28, at 1 p.m. at the Hamilton B. Maher Community Center, 3450 W. 97th St.
This class is an opportunity to enhance your security knowledge and stand united against crime while demonstrating the strength of our community to support each other.
All business owners and managers are invited to join us for this important event. Please RSVP by November 20 to secure your spot. Lunch and beverages will be provided. Registration is required.
This class is held in conjunction with the Evergreen Park Police Department, the Village of Evergreen Park, and Mayor Kelly Burke.
Wolf Road emergency repairs
Wolf Road will be closed to thru traffic from 79th Steet to Joliet Road while the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways makes emergency repairs to Wolf Road over Flag Creek Bridge in the Village of Indian Head Park. The emergency repairs are projected to take approximately four weeks to complete depending on weather conditions. The road will be closed for the duration of the repairs.
In order to complete the work, detours will be in place.
The emergency work will consist of repair to the deteriorated concrete header and deck, approach pavement repairs, replacement of preformed joints at pier and abutments, cleaning bridge deck drains and hot mix asphalt repairs at the north and south approach slab and approach slab sidewalks to eliminate bumps due to settlement.
These emergency repairs will lengthen the life of the bridge and ensure the bridge is ready for snow and ice operations this winter.
Lincoln exhibit opens at Oasis
Staff from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield will be attending the new Abraham Lincoln Exhibit at the Chicago Southland Lincoln Oasis on Interstate 80 in South Holland this week.
The Oasis exhibit consists of six seven-foot tall, glass encasings of historical reproductions from the museum.
