PH NIGHT MINGLE

At the Palos Heights Night Out festivities, police officers and citizens were able to mingle.

By Jeff Vorva

The 40th National Night Out took place all across the country on Aug. 1 and two of the Regional’s three police departments hosted events that night while the third is doing a weeklong celebration.

Palos Park is using early August to have residents learn about its Community Emergency Response Team, the Palos Park Citizens On Patrol, the Explorer program and the You Are Not Alone program that zeroes in on senior citizens in the village.

PH NIGHT PLAY AREA

The play area was the popular place to be for kids at the Palos Heights National Night Out on Aug. 1.

Regular programs, such as Coffee with the Chief and Coffee with a Cop were also scheduled to take place.

Police Commissioner Dan Polk hosts a lunch forum at 1 p.m. Aug. 4 at Cog Hill Country Club, 12200 Archer Ave.

Palos Heights held its annual Night Out on Aug. 1 on the station’s grounds. Aside from food, kids events, vendors, a balloon artist and a K-9 demonstration, there were tours of the station.

The city council had its regular meeting for a half hour during the festivities and Alderman Robert Basso talked about the merits of National Night Out.

“As the name suggests, it’s an opportunity to meet and greet and the police would like to create some bonds with individuals,” Basso said. “It’s a chance for children to have fun and people can meet the chief [William Czajkowski] and officers and have a good time.”

Orland Park had a massive event on Village Green with several vendors, food, a DJ, vehicles for kids to inspect, K-9 Officer Maverick holding a meet-and-greet, a balloon man, a dunk tank and more.
