Bikers traveling on the Cal-Sag Trail in Palos Park who experience a flat tire or mechanical breakdown can now try to make their own repairs on the trail thanks to a new bike Fix-It Station recently installed by the village of Palos Park.

The Fix-It Station is located near the Palos Park 86th Avenue Cal-Sag Trailhead just north of the parking lot on the concrete slab next to the park bench.

In the station, bike riders will find the necessary tools to try to get their bike back on the road.

The station is equipped with an air pump, wrench, screwdrivers and anything else they might need to adjust a gear or change a tire.

Installing such emergency repair stations is a growing trend in areas frequented by bicyle riders, such as the Cal-Sag Trail.

New Mayor Nicole Milovich-Walters was credited by Police Chief Joe Miller for coming up with the idea of installing the fix-it station.

We are always looking for ways to make our trails a more enjoyable experience,” she said.

She also credited a local bike club for helping inspire her. “The Palos Park Pedalers Bike Club are a fantastic and active cycling group in Palos Park.”
