The University of Toledo’s Madison Giglio was lauded as the Mid-American Conference’s Women’s Diver of the Week for the timeframe ending Jan. 25.
Giglio, a junior who prepped at Sandburg, won both diving events in the Rockets’ tri-meet against MAC opponents Buffalo and Ohio on Jan. 20. Giglio won on the 1-meter board with a personal-best score of 275.10 and she won on the 3-meter board with a season-best 308.70.
This is Giglio’s first Diver of the Week accolade for this season and the second of her career. She was recognized as the MAC’s Women’s Diver of the Week on Feb. 16, 2022.
Praising Pedro
The University of St. Francis’ Pedro Ocampo was named one of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s two Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the period ending Feb. 1.
Ocampo, a Morton West graduate, produced a “B” standard mark in the mile run. The senior clocked in at 4:18.91 to place second out of 30 runners in the field at the St. Ambrose (Iowa) Fighting Bee Invite on Jan. 28.
Following his winning the award, Ocampo competed in the Walter Cramer Invite at Olivet Nazarene on Feb. 4. He prevailed in the 1,000-meter with a time of 2:34.53 as USF runners earned the top three spots in the event.
Panther Pride
St. Laurence alum DeShawn Parker was honored by the Ohio Valley Conference for his efforts at the Louisville PNC Lenny Lyles Invite hosted by the University of Louisville on Jan. 27-28.
Parker, who competes for Eastern Illinois, was named the OVC Male Freshman of the Week in track & field for the timeframe ending Feb. 1. He set a new personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 14.23 meters (46 feet, 8.25 inches), good for eighth place at the invite.
Parker was one of three Panthers track & field athletes honored for their achievements at Louisville.
