Car and motorcycle fans are going to love this.
The Village of Monee is nearing approval of a Car & Motorcycle Show, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 11, from 1 to 6 p.m. at 5355 W. Main Street.
A band will provide live music beginning at 3 p.m. Food will be available for purchase.
The event is being hosted by the Village Inn Bar & Grill.
While Village Inn’s request to hold the show has not yet received formal village board approval, trustees reached a favorable consensus during the June 24 meeting, allowing the owners to move forward with the village’s application process.
Because the request was submitted too late to be placed on the official agenda, formal action will be considered at the board’s next meeting on July 8.
Under village ordinance, the event is classified as a block party because it requires the temporary closure of a public street. As part of that process, the applicant must complete several requirements, including obtaining majority approval from affected property owners along the closure route, coordinating with the village for traffic barricades and police presence, and assuming responsibility for post-event cleanup.
Village Inn’s owners were delayed in Chicago traffic and were unable to attend last week’s meeting in person, but they sent their daughter, Jessica Guina, to present the proposal on their behalf. Her presentation was favorably received, and the board expressed its support for allowing the application process to move forward.
During her comments, Guina noted that all proceeds generated with the $10 registration fee required of participants would be donated to the Monee Police Department and to the Monee Fire Department.
Police Chief Scott Koerner said during the meeting that MPD had no objections to the venture. The police department is adjacent to the Village Inn property.
“We have been in conversations with them. They are our neighbors, even though they have the ugliest wall in the village,” he quipped, “we are still neighborly.”
The chief was jokingly referring to the bar’s infamous mustard yellow siding, to which Guina laughed, “We’re working on that.”
Koerner added that he is in discussions with the bar owners about what might be allowed within the MPD parking lot for vendors and motorcycles. The parking lot normally is for police business only.
In the meantime, the Village Inn owners will go door-to-door to residences and businesses in the area to get each one’s approval because of the street closures and band.
The consensus was unanimous during the June 24 meeting, and formal approval is expected on July 8.
