More than 30 dogs and their owners marched through Forest View on Saturday, May 16, with K9 units from four neighboring police departments joining the procession.
The second annual Pet Walk/Parade began at 10 a.m. from 46th and Oak Park, traveling west on 46th Street to Village Hall, where a block party followed with treats, information booths, and giveaways from local organizations.
The Stickney American Legion, Stickney Forest View Lions Club, Forest View Police and Fire Department, Forest View Park District, Stickney Forest View Public Library, and VCA Berwyn all staffed booths. The Feed Store in Summit donated dog treats, and a DJ provided music.
K9 units from Cook County, Stickney, Berwyn, and Summit participated — a larger showing than the inaugural event.
Village Clerk Laura McGuffey, who organized the parade, said the turnout exceeded expectations.
“It was great having so many participants and all of the K9 units that we didn’t have the first time,” McGuffey said. “The vendors were wonderful and all brought treats.”
McGuffey also used the event to promote an upcoming Forest View Veterans Memorial planned for the lot across from the fire department.
“We thank everyone for taking part,” she said. “It’s quite an undertaking, but our committee is excited to share the plans with everyone. For more information, folks can visit our website at forestview-il.org or our Facebook page under Village of Forest View.”
