The Willow Springs Lions Club sold out its annual pork chop dinner Sunday, April 26 — moving more than 400 dinners in less than five hours.
By 4:30 p.m., the club had to lock the doors at the Willow Springs Community Center.
The record turnout marks the strongest year yet for the 15-year-old fundraiser, which supports Lions Club community projects.
“I just had to put a sign on the door,” said Lions Club President Keith Grantland. “We sold out!”
Club Secretary Mike Smigielski said the demand grows by the year.
“This is our 15th year and the turnout is wonderful once again,” he said. “We had to go out and get more chops. We sold over 400 dinners.”
Dinners cost $10 and include a pork chop sandwich, baked beans, and coleslaw. The club also offered raffle prizes including gift certificates, gift baskets, and a split-the-pot drawing.
Club leaders said they are already planning next year’s dinner and expect even stronger interest.
