A 79-year-old Oak Lawn driver caused multiple crashes while driving with a blood-alcohol level nearly triple the legal limit, police said.
Steven E. Friend struck a light pole and several cars before being stopped by police at 3:36 p.m. April 16 in the 4100 block of West 103rd Street. Police had responded to a report of a reckless driver.
Friend was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where a blood test registered 0.238 blood-alcohol content, according to police. The legal limit for driving is 0.08.
He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to provide information at property damage and vehicular damage accidents. He was also cited for driving without insurance, failure to reduce speed to avoid three accidents, damage to village property, and two citations for improper lane usage.
Friend is due in court May 19.
