Julia “Jay” A. Wojciechowicz, known as Aunti Jay, a lifelong Argo resident and athlete who worked at Ace Hardware for more than 50 years, died April 23, 2026, at her home. She was 102.
She is survived by three children: Michael Wojciechowicz, Eugene Wojciechowicz and Kathy Wojciechowicz; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael “Matches” Wojciechowicz.
Wojciechowicz was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Argo, where she was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Argo High School in 1941 and was a member of the GAA. She worked at Ace Hardware in Summit for more than 50 years alongside her brother, Stanley, and other family members.
Wojciechowicz was an accomplished athlete and bowled for more than 60 years at Argo Bowl and other alleys. She was a founding member of water aerobics at the high school and was a devoted White Sox fan. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, South America, Africa, Egypt and Israel. Her favorite destination was the family cabin in Eagle River, Wisconsin, where she spent summers with family.
Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois.
