Grant Park’s March 16 board meeting was brief, but it was also the third Monday in a row the board met due to the special meeting held on March 9.
Village Mayor Ben Detloff informed the board he met with Village Attorney Mike Santschi regarding a zoning matter for a property on Stanley Street; they are working with NewCarbon Energy regarding the property.
Detloff did not share any further details at the meeting about what the project was, what they were working on, or when more information would be available.
Additionally, Detloff informed the board that Engineer Neil Piggush advised they are getting ready to start the beautification streetscape project once the weather is ready.
“They brought forth everything, what their plans are and, basically, they’re going to start with sewer and hydrant work at the end of this month,” Detloff said.
He advised entry accommodations would be made for businesses while the work is completed.
Detloff also informed the board about a ComEd tree-replacement program. If anyone is interested, he would provide more details.
The board approved bills, payroll, and meeting minutes.
He also mentioned the Kankakee tornado and said he reached out to neighboring communities, offering assistance. He said he spoke with Kankakee Mayor Chris Curtis and Kankakee County Board Chairman Matthew Alexander-Hildebrand, who thanked him for offering to provide resources in tornado cleanup.
“Aroma Park will be in recovery mode for a long time. They were hit pretty pretty hard, and they both reached out and said, you know, thank you and pass that along to the community,” Detloff said.
Streets and Alleys Committee Chairman Jason Martin reported the village’s dump truck broke down when its tie rod broke. It was towed and repaired.
Martin advised the homeowner’s association for Lake Metonga requested a speed limit sign be installed due to speeders. He explained the village does have a spare 20 MPH speed limit sign, so it would only need to be placed.
The board approved the placement, with Martin making the motion and Wiedl seconding.
Trustee Jodi Wackerlin requested approval of the purchase of Cabin Fever Reliever signs and raffle baskets. The request was approved by the board, with Wackerlin making the motion and Trustee Gerry Morgan seconding it.
Trustee Angie Nowak, law enforcement committee chairperson, advised that the police department servers would not be brought up for a vote and would instead be tabled, as they are still gathering information.
