Four Oak Lawn Community High School employees were honored last month for their dedication, innovation and commitment to students, district officials said.

The Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 Board of Education recognized Maria Vanderwarren, Kyle Kuzur, Joelle Maslowski and Sophia Black as recipients of the Spartan Excellence Awards during its March 18 meeting.

The awards highlight staff members who have gone above and beyond in their roles and made meaningful contributions to the school community. Recipients were nominated by members of the administrative team and selected from a pool of candidates for their consistent commitment, creative problem-solving and pursuit of excellence.

Superintendent Dr. Shahe Bagdasarian said the recognition reflects the district’s ongoing efforts to foster a supportive workplace where employees can grow and succeed.

“The recognition of our staff reflects our shared appreciation for their dedication and the vital role they play in delivering an exceptional educational environment for our students,” Bagdasarian said.

Board President Rob Loehr echoed that sentiment, praising the honorees for exemplifying the district’s values.

“We are incredibly proud to recognize the outstanding contributions of these individuals,” Loehr said. “Their dedication and hard work embody the values and ethos of District 229, and we are truly fortunate to have such talented individuals as part of our school district.”

District officials said the awards underscore their continued commitment to supporting staff and recognizing excellence across Oak Lawn Community High School.
