Joe & Franks, a longtime staple in Oak Lawn known for dishing up sausages, smoked meats and other Eastern European delicacies, will close its doors for good on April 4, ending a family-run business established in 1976.

The business announced the closure in a Facebook post, thanking customers and employees for decades of support.

“To every beginning there is an end. Joe & Franks Homemade Sausage will be closing its doors on Friday, April 4th,” the post read. “We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our customers and employees for your support over the past 50 years.”

Owned and operated by the founders’ families, the meat store became known for its selection of traditional Polish specialties, along with Lithuanian items such as pierogi. Its offerings also included a variety of homemade sausages and smoked meats prepared using slow-smoking techniques over selected hardwoods.

The company has emphasized that its products are made the traditional way, without artificial smoke flavoring or additives.

For decades, Joe & Franks served generations of customers in the community, becoming a familiar neighborhood destination. Its closing marks the end of nearly 50 years in business.
