Like many police departments, Burbank has been constantly looking to hire more officers. Their efforts to recruit appear to be paying off, as the Burbank Police Department appointed six new officers at the latest city council meeting.

The appointees are current police cadets who will complete their training after four more months in the academy, said Burbank Police Chief Jack Garcia.

Hiring six officers at one time is no small feat and brings the City of Burbank one step closer to filling its full-time police ranks.

“Has the city ever hired six officers at one time?” Mayor David Gilgenberg II asked Chief Garcia.

“This is the first time,” he said.

After their appointments, Officers Diego Quiroz, Ruben Monroy, Marc Mateja, Anthony King, Zachary Vaci-Pavlick, and Summer Lyn began working in Burbank under the supervision of a commander. Residents can expect to see more of these officers on the streets of Burbank soon.

The Burbank department is supposed to have one chief of police, one deputy chief of police, two commanders, four lieutenants, seven sergeants and 39 patrol officers.

Gilgenberg said the city had been working hard to fully staff the department.
