Zemsky’s announced that it has begun inventory liquidation sales at both locations, at 4181 S. Archer Ave. in Chicago and Evergreen Park Plaza.

The stores were known for providing school uniforms and work wear.

The company had been cutting down on locations in recent years, closing its store at Ford City Mall and Bricktown Square.

Zemsky’s was founded in 1958 and offered work wear, school uniforms and medical scrubs. Brands it carries included Dickies, Carhartt, Wrangler/Riggs, Timberland, French Toast and Dutch Harbor.

The company posted this message on Facebook: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Zemsky’s will be closing all of our locations after we liquidate our inventory.

“While this era comes to a close for our family, we are deeply proud of the legacy we built for over 70 years, the generations of customers we have served, and the agencies and schools we have worked with throughout these years.

“We extend our extreme gratitude to our amazing and dedicated staff, many of whom have been with us for many years.

“Sales will be limited to in-stock items. We will not be able to do special orders for logo items. We cannot offer layaway.

“ALL SALES WILL BE FINAL.

“The store hours will remain the same until further notice.”

The Archer Avenue location will not remain closed for long.

Chicago Ald. Julia Ramirez (12th) said the Zemsky’s building will be renovated and leased to Saint Anthony Hospital, a local non-profit community hospital with a long tradition of providing high-quality healthcare.

Saint Anthony will be using the facility to expand their family medicine services, maternal care, and behavioral health services.

Saint Anthony will empathize language access at this location with physicians speaking Spanish and Mandarin. Construction will begin in October 2026 with the clinic expected to open by October 2027.

A community meeting with Saint Anthony Hospital will be held at a later date to provide more information on opportunities and services offered.
