Hundreds of first responders and their friends and family braved the weather on Saturday to help Special Olympics Illinois by taking a dip in the pond at the Manteno Sportsmen’s Club.

More than 500 people raised $198,000 for the Special Olympic athletes through the annual Polar Plunge, which is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Police departments from Manteno, Monee, Crete, Park Forest, Homewood, New Lenox, Chicago Heights, Bourbonnais, Country Club Hills, and Flossmoor all came together for a fun and exciting day in support of a great cause.

Funds raised from the event will benefit the Special Olympics of Illinois, helping provide opportunities and support for incredible athletes across the state.

In addition to the Polar Plunge, the Law Enforcement Torch Run also hosts other events throughout the year including the Plane Pull, the Torch Run, and Cop on the Top.
