The Manhattan Fire Protection District worked quickly to extinguish a residential fire in rural Manhattan on March 9, containing it to the attic.
A press release indicated the resident and two dogs had safely evacuated the home before firefighters arrived.
Crews were called to the scene in the 11600 block of W. Pauling Road just after 2 p.m. They arrived to find smoke and fire showing from the third floor of the home.
Because the home was located in a rural area without hydrants, crews worked fast to establish a rural water supply. They immediately began an aggressive interior attack and brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes.
The Manhattan Fire Protection District remained on scene for about two hours to ensure the fire was out and conduct an investigation, officials reported.
A full still alarm was called, which brought in additional resources for fire suppression and coverage for the district from the Wilmington Fire Protection District, Frankfort Fire Protection District, New Lenox Fire District, Country Club Hills Fire Department, Orland Fire Protection District, and the Romeoville Fire Department.
