The late Audrey Hepburn obviously cannot make it to the Palos Heights Woman’s Club’s annual fundraiser, but the group is going to have the next best thing.
Leslie Goddard is going to be the main event speaker at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, for the club’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” themed event at the Palos Heights Recreation Center, 6601 W. 127th St.
“She will portray Audrey Hepburn and talk about her life,” Women’s Club Officer Denise Hyker said of Goddard. “She will be Audrey Hepburn while she is giving her presentation.”
Goddard is an actress and historian who portrays such notable females as Lucille Ball, Julia Child, Amelia Earhart, Abigail Adams and others.
Goddard is booked solid through 2026 and Hyker is happy to have her for this event because, “Let’s face it, Audrey Hepburn is iconic.”
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is a 1961 film starring Hepburn as Holly Golightly, a New York socialite and it is based on a Truman Capote novella.
In the spirit of the theme, the Tiffany’s Oak Brook store is donating an 18-karat gold necklace to be raffled off. Other raffle items include paintings.
Hyker said the group’s Ways and Means Committee comes up with the themes, which in the past included Mad Hatter Tea and a Wizard of Oz theme.
“It’s usually a fun, fun time,” Hyker said.
Hyker added that she looks forward to seeing guests decorate their tables to the theme.
“Everyone uses their imagination and, trust me, we have so many talented ladies in our club,” she said. “It’s always lovely.
“Everybody raves about each table. People walk around the room just to see what each table looks like. It’s almost like a little diorama at every table. It’s just so cute.”
The event usually raises a few thousand dollars a year.
The women’s club uses money from its various events to grant scholarships to local high schools, Moraine Valley Community College and to local charities.
“Raising money is important but we are all about engaging with people and making new friends,” Hyker said. “We hope to get some women to come and see how much fun we have.”
Hyker said that non-members from all over the area are welcome to the Tiffany event. Tickets are $30 per person and for more information, contact Rose Zubik at 708-945-6254.
