A 25-year-old woman plunged to her death Thursday night from the bridge in the 7400 block of South La Grange Road, Hodgkins Police said Friday in a news release.

Police did not release her name or hometown.

The release said the woman jumped off the bridge at 6:18 p.m. March 12, was given immediate first aid and then taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where she was pronounced dead from her injuries at 11:13 a.m. March 13.

Police had been dispatched at 5:44 p.m. March 12 for a report of a woman sitting on the edge of the bridge, police said.

Hodgkins police officers along with Cook County Sheriff’s police officers found the woman and determined she was having a mental health crisis, police said.

Hodgkins requested Pleasantview Fire Protection District personnel to assist, the release said. Willow Springs police assisted in traffic control.

Officers from Hodgkins and the county began talking with the woman in an attempt to get her to move away from the edge of the bridge, the report said.

However,  those efforts did not succeed and she jumped from the bridge at approximately 6:18 p.m., landing on  River Road, the report said.

Additional Hodgkins officers, who were stationed on River Road, immediately rendered medical aid until they were relieved by Pleasantview Fire Protection District personnel, the report said.

She was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and was pronounced dead at 11:13 p.m. March 13, the report said.

The identity of the deceased was not being released pending an autopsy by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the report said.
