Bridgeview police negotiated the peaceful release of two hostages early Sunday after a 20-year-old man threatened them with an air rifle inside their home.
Officers responded around 11 p.m. Saturday to the 7800 block of Oketo after a 17-year-old family member reported that Mustafa Farraj was armed and had made threats, Bridgeview police said.
When officers arrived, Farraj was holding his mother and 13-year-old brother — who has autism — at gunpoint inside the residence.
Police negotiated with Farraj, and both hostages were released safely before he surrendered around 1 a.m. Sunday.
No injuries or property damage were reported.
Farraj was taken into custody. He had an outstanding aggravated assault warrant and now faces an additional aggravated assault charge, police said.
