After some lengthy debate, a new payroll system has been approved for the employees of the Village of Worth.

Paycom, a self-service payroll and human capital management services program, was approved unanimously during the Worth Village Board meeting on Feb. 17.

The system was the topic of discussion at a previous board meeting when several trustees believed the current payroll program was antiquated and subject to occasional errors when distributing payment.

However, several other trustees were concerned about the costs involved in adopting the new program. Police Chief Tim Denton said he was an advocate of Paycom.

Denton said that the system will allow for department heads to work specifically on their jobs instead of being devoured by endless paperwork. Denton insisted that the adoption of this program would prevent needless errors and at the same time provide for better efficiency.

The board earlier discussed the proposal but tabled it until the Feb. 17 meeting. After getting a couple of weeks to consider the program, they decided to unanimously adopt it.

The Paycom payroll system is already being utilized in Chicago Ridge.

An ordinance was approved for an amendment to rezone property at 11415 S. Harlem Ave. to the B1 Restricted Retail Business Zoning District. The property, owned by John Rita and Maureen Rita, will now be allowed to be occupied by a wider range of commercial users.

A medical supply and service office was approved for a special use permit to allow the establishment of the facility at 6850 W. 111th St.

An expenditure was approved for Mid America Tree & Landscape, Inc., for flowers and plants for the beautification committee for $7,330. The expenditure will be paid through the hotel/motel tax.

A Revels Turf and Tractor for a Taylor Pittsburgh Trailer was approved for the Water’s Edge Golf Course for $9,789. The expenditure will be offset by the sale of the 4 Toro Flex 2100 mowers.

A business license application request was approved for Recovery Medical Equipment, 6850 W. 111th St. Owner Abdallah Alahham will provide a medical supply service at the 1,000-foot-square business.

Water main breaks

Seven water main breaks occurred last month, according to Trustee Brad Urban, who is the head of the public works committee. Two of them occurred on the 6800 block and 6900 block of 114th Street.

Water main breaks also happened on the 7100 block of 111th Place, the 10900 block of Rutherford, and the 10500 block of Southwest Highway, where substantial water loss occurred, according to Urban.

Urban said that three sanitary sewer calls took place on Jan. 9. Bacteriological samples were taken and tested last month. All samples passed and are IEPA compliant, according to public works.

“The work for the Palos Hills transmission main is still in progress on Oak Tree Drive,” Urban added.

A trailer fire was extinguished on the 6800 block of 114th Street.
