Garza

Aurora C. Garza, 91, passed into the presence of her Lord Jesus on Friday, February 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 51 years to the late Alonso Garza.

Born November 4, 1934, to Eduardo and Maria Chapa in Doctor Gonzalez, Nuevo León, Mexico, Aurora later moved with her family to Monterrey. After graduating high school, she attended bilingual secretarial school and began working at Cigarrera la Moderna, now British American Tobacco, where she was employed from 1953 to 1965.

On September 14, 1965, she married Alonso Garza in a traditional Roman Catholic wedding in Monterrey. Soon after, the couple settled in Chicago, where they raised their family. They were active parishioners at Blessed Agnes, now St. Agnes of Bohemia Parish, in the Little Village neighborhood, and later longtime members of St. Daniel the Prophet Catholic Church in Garfield Ridge.

Aurora worked briefly in 1974 at Goldblatt’s department store before beginning her long career in 1975 at the Pilsen Little Village Mental Health Center, now Pilsen Wellness Center, where she served faithfully until her retirement in 1996 as executive secretary to the CEO and office manager.

In 1992, Aurora courageously battled and overcame breast cancer. She was known for her warm and social spirit and was deeply loved by the many friends she made throughout her life. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was also a devoted supporter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Chicago.

She is survived by her children, Alonso J. III, retired C.P.D. (Barbara Menzel) Garza; Edwin D. (Delia) Garza; and Nora E. Garza, C.P.D.; and her five grandsons, Edwin, Alexander, Andrew, David and Steven Garza. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Alonso and her siblings Alicia, Edelia, Jesus and Hermila.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 27, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th Street just west of Harlem). Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:30 AM until prayers at 9:30 AM. Procession will follow to St. Daniel the Prophet Catholic Church for a 10 AM Mass.

Aurora will be laid to rest with her late husband at Resurrection Cemetery.

Her legacy of faith, strength and devotion to family will live on in all who knew and loved her.
