Marilyn R. “Mert” Schutt, nee Ellerie, age 96, beloved wife for 74 years to the late Andrew Schutt (2023), passed away peacefully.
She was the loving mother of Kenneth (Carol) Schutt, Gary (Joan) Schutt, Andy (Chris) Schutt, David (Laura) Schutt, and the late Linda (late Raymond) Lewis and Judy Schutt. Marilyn was a cherished grandmother of 15, great-grandmother of 29, and great-great-grandmother of one. She was the dear sister of the late Clarence (late Marge) Ellerie and a fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was a dedicated homemaker who delighted in preparing meals and baked goods for her family. She enjoyed roller skating, bowling, garage saleing, and daily coffee time with her neighbors. Later in life, she embraced travel, Florida winters, and volunteer work at Palos Hospital and Pass It On Thrift Store. A devoted Christian, Marilyn spent each morning in Bible study and passionately supported numerous ministries. She was the last remaining member of the large Schutt family that once owned the Ridgeland Avenue farm in Worth, Illinois.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 23, 2026, from 3–8 p.m. Funeral Service Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave., Orland Park, IL (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem). A live-stream of the service will be available at Colonial Chapel’s website: colonialchapel.com. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens South, Oak Lawn, IL.
