Joanna Bednarz, lovingly known as Asia, passed away Feb. 4, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois. She was 39.
Born Aug. 20, 1986, in Zakopane, Poland, Asia lived with passion, purpose and an unwavering desire to make a difference. She earned her master’s degree from Belmont University, reflecting her dedication to education and personal growth.
Asia’s greatest joy was found in her love for animals, especially horses. She nurtured that passion at GB’s Stables in Smyrna, Georgia, where the Williams family welcomed her as one of their own. The stables became a second home and a place where she deepened her connection to the animals she adored.
With entrepreneurial spirit and vision, Asia founded Stable Hand, creating a welcoming space where children could experience summer camps, special events and meaningful interactions with horses. She was especially devoted to creating inclusive experiences for children with special needs. Her four rescued horses — Tony the Pony, Red, Panda and Zion — were central to her mission of bringing comfort, joy and healing to others.
Asia was a devoted daughter to Zofia and Jan Bednarz; a loving sister to Pawel Bednarz; and a cherished granddaughter to Tadeusz Mietus and the late Anna Mietus and the late Wladyslaw and Marta Bednarz. She was also a beloved niece and cousin to many. Her love for her family was steadfast, and her warmth and generosity touched countless lives.
Asia lived fully and fearlessly, pouring her heart into everything she did. Her legacy is one of compassion, determination and joy. Though her time was far too short, the impact she made will endure in the lives she changed and the memories she created.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanna’s honor may be made to GB’s Stables.
