A four-year-old hotel project at 79th Street and State Road remains unfinished, with city officials noting that progress is continuing on the long-delayed construction.
The property, a former Cole-Taylor Bank building, has been in development since at least 2019.
In November 2023, the Burbank City Council reported the project was “in the process of securing additional loans to complete the hotel project.” But by July 2024, Building Commissioner Joe Hession told the council that the hotel properties had made “no progress.”
The project sits on a large corner lot adjacent to a Walgreens.

Meanwhile, other development is moving forward in Burbank.
The city unanimously awarded KLF Enterprises, Inc. a $159,410 contract to demolish the vacant VFW building at 5450 State Road. Mayor Gilgenberg II confirmed that items of significance to the Veterans of Foreign Wars were removed and saved before demolition to be returned to another local VFW group.
Nearby, Gloria Jean’s Coffees is under construction at 7120 W. 79th Street, between Speedway and Dollar General. The coffee shop has made significant progress since summer and is expected to open soon, following Joey’s Red Hots, which opened in May.
