More bangs. More bucks.
There will be a few more fireworks in Orland Park in 2026.
Thanks in part to America turning 250 years old there will be more shells lighting up the sky in the village.
On Feb. 2, the village board approved a three-year deal with a two-year option with LaPorte Indiana-based Miand Inc. DBA Mad Bomber Fireworks.
The cost to provide fireworks for Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Taste of Orland Park celebrations will be $120,000 in 2026, $105,000 in 2027 and $105,000 in 2028.
The village also owns option years for 2029 and 2030 at $108,000 each year.
Director of Recreation and Parks Ray Piattoni said the Fourth of July fireworks usually run between $30,000 to $35,000 per year. This year it shot up to $90,000 because the village wants a much bigger show for the nation’s birthday, Mayor James Dodge said.
Piattoni likes the work the Mad Bomber company does.
“They have done the Taste of Orland Park and the holiday festival,” Piattoni said. “It was a much better show – probably a better show than any we’ve ever had. We have a very good vendor this year.
“It’s more expensive because of the 250 American celebration and we’re getting a lot more shells with this one.”
For those keeping score at home, there will be 3,706 shells set off on Independence Day, 1,637 for Memorial Day and 1,637 plus a drone show for Taste of Orland Park for 6,980 total.
In 2027 and 2028, there will be a reduction to 3,067 shells on Fourth of July but the other two shows will remain the same for a grand total of 6,341 per year.
According to village documents, there were two vendors who submitted proposals. The second vendor – Johnny Rockets Fireworks of Lincolnshire – had the same pricing however had a much smaller shell count including 3,704 for 2026 and 3,360 for 2027 and 2028.
