When winter finally cooperates, Evergreen Park residents know exactly where to lace up: the Daniel V. Capuano Ice Rink at Yukich Fields, where cold air, flashing blades and the scrape of skates signal the season is officially underway.

The outdoor rink, located near 89th Street and Kedzie Parkway, is now open for the season, welcoming skaters of all ages for open skate sessions, stick-and-puck time and even RAT hockey. As with any true Chicago-area winter tradition, hours are weather dependent and occasionally subject to change because of private rentals, but when the ice is good, the fun is guaranteed.

Lace up, glide out, and let the winter fun begin! Skaters of all ages are taking over Capuano Ice Rink.

The rink’s schedule offers something for everyone. Open skate sessions, stick and puck time and hockey programming give casual skaters and seasoned players plenty of chances to hit the ice throughout the season.

Skating at the Capuano Ice Rink is meant to be easy on the wallet. Kids 17 and under skate for $5 for residents and $6 for non-residents, while adults pay $6 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Seniors 65 and older receive a discounted rate of $4 for residents and $5 for non-residents. Hockey sessions are priced at $7 for residents and $8 for non-residents, making it affordable for players to get in some ice time.

Forgot your skates or just don’t own a pair? Rentals are available for $5 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Skaters looking to improve their glide can also have their skates sharpened on site for $10 per pair.

Beyond public skating, the rink can be rented for private events, including birthday parties, holiday celebrations and family gatherings, as well as hockey practices, games and tournaments. Rentals include nets, a scoreboard and a sound system, and cost $225 per hour, offering a memorable way to celebrate the winter season.

While enjoying the ice, residents are also encouraged not to miss Evergreen Park Flake Fest on Saturday, Feb. 7. The annual winter festival brings the community together with seasonal activities, family-friendly entertainment and a lively outdoor atmosphere that celebrates winter in Evergreen Park. Details and updates for both the rink and Flake Fest are shared regularly on the Evergreen Park Recreation and Village Facebook pages and through email newsletters. For rink rentals or additional information, residents can contact the Recreation Department.

It may be cold, but in Evergreen Park, winter isn’t just something to endure, it is something to skate through.
