If Faith Connection’s congregation has their way, senior citizens in Pembroke Township will have an especially joyous holiday season.

Since 2017, a local community church with more than 100 years of history in Wilton Center, Faith Connection has conducted an annual holiday food mission to aid senior citizens and their families.

According to Alex Genova, Faith Connection Mission Team member, missions are a focus of the church. Its volunteers are dedicated to completing multiple missions each year with impact reaching from the local community to overseas.

This year, Faith Connection is partnering with the Pembroke Township Senior Citizen Center to provide 40 food boxes for complete holiday dinners for 200 people.

Alex Genova sorts bags of produce in the back of a Faith Connection SUV.

Each food box has a turkey or ham and all the favorite side dishes.

The church’s members donated the food and funds that will be matched in value by the Pembroke Senior Citizen Center.

“Faith Connection’s Mission Team delivered the food boxes to the Pembroke Township Senior Citizen Center, in Kankakee County, on December 16,” Genova said.

“The food will be formally distributed to the seniors and their families (during Christmas week).

“This is our church’s eighth consecutive year helping those in need in Pembroke Township.

“For this year, we have enough food for the Holiday mission, but monetary donations to the Pembroke Township Senior Citizens Center are always welcome. Also, the Senior Center is asking for donations of blankets, because the Senior Center is a certified Illinois warming center.

“The Senior Center still is looking to acquire a handicap accessible van for ongoing operations at the Senior Center,” he added.

“At this time, we do not need volunteers, however maybe next year, as this is an annual holiday drive.

“We want people to know that we should always include those in need in our prayers, and we should always be helping those who need help,” he noted.

“Our church members take pride and remain dedicated to our mission efforts, and we will continue to focus on those in need in our local community and abroad.”
