Diane F. Midiri (née Zajkowski) passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at Palos Community Hospital. Born in Chicago on March 24, 1947, Diane’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and resilience. She faced life’s challenges with unwavering strength and always emerged with a smile.
While working together at Boise Cascade, she met her soulmate, Antonino (Tony). Sparked by a playful bet that led to their first date, they were married for over 56 years and raised two children, Marie and Antonino (Tony) Jr. After raising her family, Diane returned to the workforce as a switchboard operator for Mercy Hospital, where she dedicated 25 years of service until her well-deserved retirement.
Family was the cornerstone of Diane’s life. She was preceded in death by her father, Adolph; her mother, Angeline; and her brothers, Norman and Richard. Diane was the beloved wife of Tony, loving mother of Marie (LaPorte) and Tony, cherished mother-in-law of Paul and Sofia, and devoted Nana of her grandchildren, Marissa and her husband Blake, John, Antonino (Nino), and Maria. She was also a dear sister-in-law to Mary (Midiri) DeOrnellas and a loving aunt to her nephew and nieces.
Diane was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, whether sharing dinners, celebrating holidays, or enjoying a lively game of LCR with a glass of wine in hand. She loved cooking and baking, and her famous “nana cookies” were legendary. She never shared the recipe, always insisting the secret ingredient was love.
Diane’s legacy is one of love, friendship, and courage. Her warm spirit and steadfast heart will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished forever.
Funeral services and interment are private.
