Roy B. Hopkins passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, in Boiling Springs, South Carolina, formerly of Mokena, Illinois. He was born on November 18, 1939, in Port Glasgow, Scotland.
Roy spent the first 11 years of his life in the shipbuilding town of Port Glasgow, where his father worked as a pipefitter in the shipyard. Seeking better opportunities, his father immigrated to the United States, and once settled in Oak Lawn, Illinois, Roy followed with his mother, Margaret, and his three sisters, Maureen, Helen and Elizabeth. Roy attended Oak Lawn High School, where he quickly distinguished himself as a bright and capable student.
After high school, Roy began his working life at United Airlines, where he met his first wife, Violette Hopkins (nee Pote). He later embarked on a long and fulfilling career with RR Donnelley & Sons, earning the respect of his colleagues for his dedication, expertise and strong work ethic. Roy formed lasting friendships during his career that continued well into his retirement.
Roy is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Lee Hopkins (nee Brogden), with whom he shared a strong and loving partnership. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Violette Hopkins; his son, Steven; and his sisters, Maureen, Helen and Elizabeth. He was the proud father of Rob (Debbie) Hopkins and Barbara Rossi, and a loving grandfather of Claire (Avery), Jeff (Reece), Kevin, Katie, Jordan and Danny.
Roy’s life was defined by love for his family, pride in his work and quiet dedication to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, while the memories he created will continue to bring comfort and inspiration.
A Celebration of Life is planned for January 16, 2026, for family and friends.
