Winter doesn’t stand a chance in Palos Park when the chili starts simmering.
The village will turn up the heat on Saturday, Feb. 7, with its annual “It’s Chili in the Park!” Chili Cook-Off at the Palos Park Recreation Center, 8901 W. 123rd St., a popular cold-weather tradition that draws serious chili talent and plenty of hungry fans.

The event brings together members of the Chili Appreciation Society International and local cooks for a flavorful faceoff packed with bold spices, secret recipes and friendly rivalry. Chili chefs from nearby neighborhoods and across the Midwest will compete in Red Chili and Traditional-Style categories, all chasing awards and bragging rights.
Doors open to the public at 12:30 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to come hungry and be part of the action. For $5, guests can purchase a tasting cup, sample a wide range of chili entries and cast a vote for the coveted People’s Choice Award, making the cook-off a hands-on experience for families, friends and neighbors looking to warm up together.
Aspiring chili champions are also invited to step up to the pot. The cook-off is open to both CASI members and local cooks, giving everyone a chance to prove their recipe reigns supreme. Registration is available through the Palos Park Recreation and Parks Department, with a deadline of Monday, Feb. 2.
Whether competing, tasting or cheering from the sidelines, “It’s Chili in the Park!” promises a spicy, satisfying and community-filled winter day in Palos Park.
