Anne I. McGuire, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, surrounded by family and friends, departing on her own terms.
Anne was preceded in death by her loving parents, Irene (Howenstein) Clonts and Jesse Clonts. Raised in Troy, Missouri, she cherished her childhood, spending time hunting with her father and sewing clothes with her mother, experiences that shaped her independent spirit and lifelong creativity.
A gifted educator, Anne was an accomplished French teacher who earned two master’s degrees from the University of Missouri and the University of Illinois, following her studies in Paris. She had a remarkable ability to make learning engaging and meaningful, leaving a lasting impression on generations of students. Anne took great pride in hearing about the accomplishments of her former students, celebrating their successes as if they were her own.
Anne was a devoted and extraordinary mother to her daughter, Diane McGuire (Donald Kirchhoff), and a loving grandmother to Briana Kirchhoff, with whom she shared many treasured moments. She also embraced the role of a second mother to many throughout her life, including Michael Sykes, offering guidance, care, and unconditional support in the truest sense of motherhood. Being a mother was the heart of Anne’s life and purpose.
For the past three years, Anne faced cancer and dementia with remarkable strength and resilience, battling like a true warrior. In her final days, “Annie” was surrounded by the love of her devoted caregivers, family, and friends, who helped her maintain her spunk and spirit. Her determination and courage never wavered, and she made those who loved her immensely proud. Je t’aime beaucoup.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a memorial visitation on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 11:30 a.m., at Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Highway, Palos Hills, Illinois. Interment will be private.
