The fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by a federal agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday has intensified calls for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Noem and DHS claimed the agent shot Good in self-defense, accusing her of domestic terrorism. DHS deployed similar narratives against two people they shot in Chicago during Operation Midway Blitz.
U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (D-2nd) of Matteson, a longtime critic of Noem and her anti-immigration tactics, said she will file three articles of impeachment against Noem. First, that she willfully obstructed congressional oversight and withheld appropriate funds in violation of her constitutional law, a second accusing Noem of compromising the due process of U.S. citizens and directing unconstitutional actions, and a third alleging Noem abused her office for personal benefit and steered federal dollars to associates.
Kelly said her team has been working on this action since last year and they are ready to go ahead with the filing. The effort isn’t expected to succeed even if it should be approved by the House, which has a Republican majority. The measure would then go to the Senate where it would likely be dead on arrival, which is what happened to a similar impeachment threat against then-DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in 2024.
Lawmakers in Illinois and Minnesota swiftly condemned Wednesday’s shooting, with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey both called for federal agents to leave the Twin Cities and the state immediately.
“To Donald Trump and Kristi Noem: You’ve done enough,” Walz said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon. “There is nothing more important than Minnesotans’ safety.”
Frey was more forceful in his call that came in the immediate wake of the shooting. “Get the f*** out of Minneapolis,” he said.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson issued a statement in solidarity with Minneapolis.
“The point of this operation of ICE raids and of this President’s rhetoric is to divide us and to dehumanize our neighbors. Do not let them change the part of your soul that sees a fellow human being when you look at your neighbor.”
On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Chuy Garcia (D-4th) said, “This morning, I feel compelled to speak on the tragic incident that occurred in Minneapolis yesterday, the tragic killing of Renee Good. I do so mindful of the fact that two of the first shootings by ICE agents, CBP agents, occurred in this country, occurred in my district (…) last summer. First it was a father of two who had just dropped off his two children at school, he was approached by ICE agents (he was) terrified. As he sought to leave the area he was shot and killed. Then came the shooting of a young woman, a U.S. citizen, shot five times. Accused by Sec. Noem, by other officials of terrorist activity. Serious federal charges that could have resulted in decades of time in prison. She was a teacher at a Montessori school. What happened to those charges? They’ve been dropped, as have other cases of serious charges that have been brought about in my community alone.
Congressman García also emphasized the lawlessness of the Trump administration.
“Rogue federal agents under the leadership of Secretary Noem, Tom Homan, Stephen Miller, are trampling on people’s constitutional rights like we haven’t seen in decades, perhaps in the history of our country. They are engaging in obscene ethnic and racial profiling. They are denying due process to people when apprehended. They are masked with military-grade weapons, cussing at people, ordering people to do things, treating people like dirt. U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, (…) veterans. It’s a terrible precedent in our country’s history. It will be a shameful episode as we tell the history of America, because we’ve trampled on the Constitution. We’ve violated what has been established law in our country, and we’ve engaged in Gestapo tactics of federal agents that have been encouraged to violate the Constitution and trample on the rights of people in communities all over our country.”
On Friday, U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-6th) joined the call for impeachment proceedings against Noem.
“Under Kristi Noem’s failed leadership, the Department of Homeland Security has sanctioned the murder and baseless arrest of American citizens, endangered communities throughout Illinois and the United States, subjected human beings to shockingly inhumane conditions in the name of racism and xenophobia, and denied due process to citizens and non-citizens alike,” he said..
“The murder of Renee Good is a tragic episode in a story of harm and destruction orchestrated by Secretary Noem and ICE that must not be tolerated anywhere.
“I support immediate Congressional action up to and including impeachment proceedings, but that alone is insufficient. The entire chain of command who have enabled a culture of murder must face justice.”

Renee’s death was caused by her own actions with the help of her wife ! You want to place blame the Biden administration as well as the Democrat party has caused this illegal immigration problem with turning a blind eye to the border!
