What will happen with the Petey’s II property in Orland Park has finally been answered.
Amazon has proposed a massive development for the 35-acre site at 159th Street and LaGrange Road that includes a 228,660 square foot commercial retail building along with five outlots.
The project would include demolishing the restaurant that closed two years ago in January 2024.
The village announced Friday the project is scheduled for a hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday by the village Plan Commission.
“When a global retailer of this scale is considering investment in Orland Park, it sends a strong signal about the vitality of our community and the strategic importance of this corridor,” said Orland Park Mayor Jim Dodge. “It demonstrates that Orland Park continues to be viewed as a premier destination for major commercial investment.”
“This is a prime location, and we are encouraged to see it being considered for full commercial redevelopment,” said Dodge. “Projects like this have the potential to generate substantial sales tax revenue that directly benefits residents while strengthening one of our most important corridors.”
Amazon’s proposal includes retail “of a wide selection of products, including groceries and general merchandise, with accessory services and potentially dining locations for prepared food sold on-site,” according to a special-use permit application.
Alongside the building would be 837 parking spaces and seven loading docks, according to the application. Amazon customers would be able to receive deliveries at the facility, and the site plan includes space for delivery drivers “to improve safety and meet the demands of modern online retail without sacrificing the in-store customer experience.”
Amazon would construct a stormwater detention pond along with six acres of open greenspace.
If approved by the village board, it would become the latest project eyed for that part of the village.
In September, the village approved plans by Costco, which is just to the west of the Petey’s II site, to build a roundabout on Ravinia Avenue, add 20 gas pumps to its gas station and convert the existing gas station into additional parking.
Costco is also adding another entrance/exit on the northwest side of the building.
In early December, trustees agreed to use eminent domain to acquire a former gas station and KFC restaurant at 9401 and 9441 West 159th Street.
Plans were announced in early 2024 for 132 luxury apartments, a hotel and three restaurants on a site southeast of the 159th and LaGrange intersection.
The village also has plans to extend Ravinia Avenue south to 161st Street.
Village officials said negotiations have been underway for months with Amazon to develop the property.

I vote NO on Amazon More times than residence in that village alone! That building is an iconic landmark and you cannot find anything like that in today’s world! If anything is going to be built in that lot it should be a place for homeless people to live and revamp the restaurant for them, not some dumb Amazon! There are other priorities besides Amazon taking up space for mostly a parking lot and a big building just for online purchases. It would be absurd for the village to even considerate it!
Your comment is parody, right?
That corner is a part of our history and it should be protected. That area is busy enough and Amazon would be better if it was set up south towards I 80 due to their heavy truck presence and heavy traffic. 159th an LA Grange corner woul take away from comfortable village. A luxury hotel or city park attached to luxury apts would work. If Amazon builds there, people traveling East would be blocked up back to Will Cook Road. Also Truck traffic coming from I 355 would be an issue. Move Petey building. Develop a park at this location an use this building as a village site . The intersection would be attracting visitors not just another big business over populated with trucks an cars .
Why….Amazon.
Isn’t there enough traffic at that location:(159th Lagrange rd.
No no no.
Just what we need in Orland Park, more traffic. 👎👎
Horrible. Congestion traffic. Eye sore. Nooooooooko
Wow! I cannot imagine the traffic and truck volume on the corner of 159th and LaGrange! Traffic is crazy as it is with Costco and all the lights already. Orland is going to do the same thing Tinley did by putting Pete’s warehouse on Harlem! The truck traffic is crazy and dangerous!
What a bunch of morons to even consider this! That belongs right off a freeway with entrance and exit ramps NOT right in the center of town with roads that cannot even handle the traffic demand on them currently! Why not put the Bears Super dome there too while we’re at it ( rolling my eyes). That corner could be developed into something like apartments or condos for folks that actually like living near a busy bustling area with stores on the bottom but definitely not a giant warehouse with tons of truck traffic going in and out. That’s just a recipe for disaster.
What an eyesore!!! Lovely restaurants and shopping with a warehouse in the middle. The mayor is an imbecile.
Only upside I could see is perhaps you could then relegate any “No Kings” protestors to that BIG parking lot. That way they would get their exposure without irritating drivers up and down LaGrange Rd. who have to dodge and weave to avoid running over any of those nuts.
You just convinced me to retract my contract on a home purchase!! There’s enough traffic issues on 159th, no more is needed. Bezos doesn’t have to deal with the traffic, Orland Park residents do. He doesn’t think about the outcome for the people who live there or anyone else’s feelings, it’s about how many more billions he can stuff in his pockets. NO NO NO NO is my opinion. I’ll start looking at other locations to buy unless this gets voted down
