Anthony Coleman Jr., 50, of the 15100 block of Lincoln Avenue in Dolton, was charged December 14 with retail theft for taking four bottles of alcohol from Jewel, 9300 W. 159th St., police said.
Two of the bottles he stuffed inside his puffy winter jacket and the other two he slipped inside his backpack, police said.
When confronted by police, Coleman reportedly apologized for taking the items and asked, “Can’t we just toss the case out and forget about it?”
Not that police were ever even considering Coleman’s request, but it certainly didn’t help when they said they found a crack pipe and 1.7 grams of crack cocaine in his pocket.
Police said that in addition to being charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance, Coleman was given a lifetime ban from Jewel.
