Throughout December, the sound of Renaissance-era harmonies echoed across Evergreen Park as the Madrigal choir from Evergreen Park Community High School carried holiday music well beyond the school’s walls.
The 14-member vocal ensemble spent much of the month performing at community gatherings, schools, churches and special events, becoming a familiar sight in their traditional costumes as they moved from venue to venue spreading seasonal cheer.
The group opened its busy schedule at OSF Health Little Company of Mary Hospital, singing through the corridors for patients and staff. From there, the Madrigals appeared at the high school’s annual Cocoa, Comedy and Carols event, performed for a senior group at Bethel Bible Church, and sang during a Breakfast with Santa for EPCHS staff members and their families.
Additional appearances included the school’s Winter Concert, a recording session for an episode of The EP Podcast, and several high-profile community events. The choir performed at the Evergreen Park Chamber of Commerce Holiday Luncheon at Saint Xavier University, the Grinch Breakfast hosted at Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124’s Central Middle School, and Santa’s Wonderland, the village’s annual holiday tree lighting, held this year inside the Hamilton B. Maher Community Center.
Despite its small size, the ensemble carries a large presence in the community, said EPCHS Choir Director Logan Scalf.
“We have a small group, but one that holds a lot of individual responsibility,” Scalf said. “Bringing music into the community is the most important thing we do, so I’m really proud of the time and effort these students put into it.”
This year’s Madrigals are Charlie Avros, Adam Bosch, Louise Brady, Ryan Brennan, Adrian Buenrostro, Cara Cassidy, Bella Dever, Alex Francisco, Jamari Jeffries, Abigail Mahoney, Isaiah Matthews, Zion McCadd, Riley Pippen and Danny Sommerio.
While the Madrigals typically conclude their season with the end of the holiday period, this year’s group will remain together a bit longer. The ensemble has been invited to perform at a choir concert at Millikin University in Decatur on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, extending their season into the new year.
