Donald D. Jurcak

Donald Dennis Jurcak, known affectionately as Don, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. He was born on November 7, 1942, and spent 83 remarkable years living a life defined by service, family, friendship, and an enduring love for sports.

Don was a proud alumnus of Holy Trinity High School, where the values of discipline and camaraderie first took root. Answering the call to serve, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Upon returning home to Chicago, Don began a distinguished career with the Chicago Fire Department, where he served for 34 years. His dedication, bravery, and deep respect for his fellow firefighters earned him admiration both within the department and beyond.

Don was the beloved husband of Darlene Jurcak and a devoted father to Corine (Joe) Schultz, Karen Lynch (Michael Stateman), and Jennifer Jurcak. He treasured his role as a father, guiding his children with strength, wisdom, and unwavering support. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Joey, Jenna, and Jacob Schultz; Sean and Kyle Lynch; Kaitlyn (Thomas) Geier; Alyssa Jurcak; Aidan Gentil; and Alexxis (Bruno) Paixao, as well as his adored great-granddaughter Rio, who brought him immense joy in his later years.

A man of many talents, Don was a gifted craftsman and painter who could fix, build, or create just about anything. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, sharing his skills with generosity and pride. A devoted sports fan, Don’s heart belonged to the Chicago White Sox, and he especially cherished his annual trips to Notre Dame football games with his brother and best friend, Mike Jurcak—a tradition rooted as much in family as in football.

Don was also deeply loved by his extended family, loving relatives, and countless friends, including his cherished big sister Arlene McGury. Wherever Don went, he was bound to run into a friend—or make a new one.

Known for his sense of humor, friendliness, and zest for life, Don had a way of lighting up every room he entered. His laughter was contagious, and his presence felt like a warm embrace. “Proud Donny—keep on rollin’.”

As we celebrate Don’s life, we honor a man who lived fully and loved deeply. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire. He will be profoundly missed.
