Orland Park officials are moving closer to connecting Ravinia Avenue to 161st Street and installing a traffic light at LaGrange Road and 161st Street.
The board voted recently to use eminent domain to acquire a piece of property at 9801 W. 159th St. that will assist the village in completing the extension of Ravinia Avenue to 161st Street and installing a traffic signal at LaGrange Road and 161st Street.
Eminent domain is a legal maneuver to acquire property for public use.
Trustee Cynthia Nelson-Katsenes said the village had been in discussion with the property owner for some time but was unable to come to an agreement.
“Unfortunately, this has to be done for the safety of the residents in that area,” she said.
An independent analysis of the property will determine what the village will pay for the parcel.
