Bernice L. Borecki, formerly known as Bernice Bunte, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Miller Healthcare in Kankakee. Born on December 3, 1929, in Beecher, she was the daughter of Arthur and Martha (Hoppensteadt) Bunte.
Bernice was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Beecher, the Dorcas Society, a charitable organization where she volunteered, and a member of the Steger Historical Society. She enjoyed playing golf, reading, playing cards, and joined her pinochle club in 1953. Bernice was employed as a bookkeeper for Steger Furniture Manufacturing Company in Steger. She retired after 25 years of service.
She is survived by several loving nephews, nieces, and friends. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Borecki on March 29, 2002; parents, Arthur and Martha Bunte; sisters, Marian (Bruce) Drever, Lavern (Charles) Grimes, and Ferne (Clyde) Cann.
Visitation and services were held on December 19, at Peace Lutheran Church, with Pastor LaMie as the officiant. Burial is at Eagle Lake Cemetery.
