Bridgeview firefighters battled frigid temperatures as well as a house fire early Friday morning in unincorporated Nottingham Park.

Firefighters arrived at 7133 W, 74th Place about 12:30 a.m. to find heavy fire conditions, said acting Fire Chief Keith Grzadziel. He said a Full Still Alarm was requested to bring in additional assistance.

The residents were at home when the fire started but were able to self-evacuate. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

In addition to the flames, firefighters had to battle 12-degree temperatures with a -3 windchill. It was so cold a water main ruptured hampering firefighters.

The home was a total loss and displaced residents will be staying with family, Grzadziel said.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting with the fire investigation.

Over a dozen fire departments assisted.

Bridgeview Public Works provided a pickup truck to haul frozen firehoses back to the fire station and salted the street.

Bridgeview provides fire and EMS services to Nottingham Park, which is adjacent to the village.
