The Green Hills Public Library is once again inviting the community to help support individuals facing housing insecurity through its annual Giving Tree campaign, a holiday tradition aimed at meeting critical needs close to home.

The library has partnered with BEDS Plus to collect new items for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Donations will be accepted through Jan. 4 and may include new coats, hand warmers, leggings, sweatpants and low-denomination gift cards. All donated items must be new.

The Giving Tree campaign is designed to engage residents in a simple but meaningful way during the holiday season. Those who donate are invited to place an ornament on the Giving Tree, which is displayed in the ground-floor lobby of the library.

BEDS Plus serves individuals and families throughout the south and west suburbs of Cook County, using a Housing First approach that prioritizes quickly moving shelter guests into permanent housing. The organization also provides individualized case management to help clients maintain housing stability. This year alone, BEDS Plus has assisted more than 5,800 people.

Library Director Jane Jenkins has witnessed the impact firsthand.

“The need is great, and unfortunately it’s something we see every day,” Jenkins said. “Through the Giving Tree campaign, and with our community’s generous participation, we hope to provide real support for those facing challenges.”

Donations may be dropped off at the Patron Services Desk inside the Green Hills Public Library District building, located at 10331 S. Interlochen Dr. in Palos Hills. Library officials emphasized that used items cannot be accepted at this time.

The annual Giving Tree effort reflects the library’s ongoing commitment to community outreach and partnerships that address local needs during the holiday season and beyond.
