May 9, 1927 – December 12, 2025

Elroy H. Luecke, born May 9, 1927, in Crete, went to be with his Lord on December 12, 2025.

Elroy lived and worked in Beecher his entire married life, moving to assisted living in Bourbonnais in 2021. He served his country proudly in the Army from 1946-’47. In Beecher, he was a postal clerk, a member of Beecher AMVETS, Sportsmen’s Club, St. Luke’s Church, and later Zion Lutheran Church in Grant Park. He loved taking his family on vacations across the U.S. every year, attending all his children’s school events, including being a chaperone for many Beecher Band trips. He served his community reading water meters, delivering phone books, Meals on Wheels, and sermon tapes, and also providing rides to airports. He loved trains (especially his model trains), playing darts, dancing polkas, and searching for sand dollars on the beaches of Florida. He never knew a stranger and always had a kind word or helping hand for anyone who needed one. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Joyce (Cal) Cheney, of Colorado; son, Philip Luecke; grandson, Luke (Jessica) Cheney, of California; nieces and nephews, Donna and Cheryl Hofsommer and Jerry (Donna) Hofsommer, all of Florida, Harlan (Elizabeth) Hofsommer, and Jeff Segert and Cathy (Segert) Lambert. Elroy also is survived by his stepchildren Cecilia (Jerry) Heisner, Bryan (Tricia) Schroeder, of Wisconsin, and Donna (Mark) Kovarik, of New Jersey; and several grand- and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Selk Luecke (39 years); grandson, Kyle Cheney; and more recently by his wife, Garnita Schroeder Luecke (25 years); sister, Dorothy Hofsommer; and stepbrothers, Wilbert Segert and Everett Segert.

Visitation will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Grant Park on Wednesday, December 17, from 10 to 11 a.m. and immediately followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial is at St. Luke Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Grant Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hack-Jensen Funeral Home in Beecher.
